It does not offer that. It is configured as an application already.

Can you run other web sites on the machine?

Can you run ASP .Net sites?

Both of these would be pre-req's to running DNN - which is just a large ASP.Net application.

^Not sure what you mean by this. I do not have any other websites on this machine other than the default website and the dnn one I am trying to set up. The website I am trying to update runs on a XP VM.

Can you run ASP .Net sites?
^Again, I'm out of my element entirely and I apologize for my ignorance. But as far as I know everything works as it should.

I have tried changing authentication from built in to custom and that did not work.

I followed this guide for the installation:

miracles do happen.

So I have been trying to get the default install running on a Windows 8 machine forever(three or so weeks) and decided to try it on a Win7 VM. After changing the Connect as... in the Site's Basic Settings to use a Specific User instead of pass-through authentication it finally loaded up to the install wizard. I really am not sure why this made the difference and if anyone can explain it to me I would be all ears. This did not work, however, for the Windows 8 machine like I mentioned earlier in this thread. Thanks everyone for all the input and I'm sure I'll be back after fumbling around some more trying to get this thing going.

Can you recheck your Win8 setup's URL and configuration in IIS?  I just saw your error message (admittedly on Win 7 and using Visual Studio) but the cause was the url I used in IE was configured in IIS Manager as a Virtual Directory when it should have been an Application.

It wasn't until I checked VERY carefully that I realized that the similarly named Application next door was NOT what I should be comparing with.

Best wishes,
