I restored the previous backup to a point before going to DNN 7.2 (7.1.2). Now it didn't maker any difference. So deleted the module from the register page and add a fresh module. Checked page and module permissions Page is Unauthorized and Module inherits.

Add new user as an Unauthorized and its a no go. Try adding as Superuser with Generated password and the user is Created and email delivered. Try again  adding a password and it is good too.

So looks like something to do with permissions.

Hell now it gets interesting.

I think that I may have two pages in conflict with the Registration.

After deleting and adding a new module and removing Security Roles, User Accounts and it didn't work I noticed that the Module title is different on what appears to be the same page until one looks at the URL.

Register.aspx

Container Title is Add New User

 Register/tabid/311/Default.aspx?returnurl=http%3a%2f%2fstaging.domain.com.au%2fHome.aspx

 Container title is User registration.

Deleted Register.aspx and set Register page to None Specified. When attempt to Add new User we went to the Default.aspx page. URl above. No Module on that page. So I retored the Register.aspx page and this is where it gets interesting. The page is loaded with modules. and starts with

Registration Suspended

New registrations are temporarily suspended while site maintenance id being done. We apologise for the inconvenience. Please call back later.

An Add New User module, then a Security Roles Module, then a User accounts Module, then another Add New User Module, Security Roles and another User Module.

Fill the Register form above and click Register. Wait for email then follow the steps below.

NOTE: After your logon is compete you may need to verify again on your page. You will only need to do this once. We are moving to a new login system and aologise for this double action requirement.

Don't know if all this is going to display. But will give it a shot. Also I haven't done any of the above yet.

Oops now I do feel stupid.  All that stuff above has returned from the recycle bin that should have been emptied years ago.

So I have emptied the bin and deleted all Users & Roles modules from all the pages that had any Security Roles, User Account or User Accounts. "Deleted all from the Recycle Bin." Added a new Users & Roles to the Register page and moved User Accounts and Security Roles the pages of the same name. Leaving Add New User on the register page. Also change back to Verified from Public, could not get verification links sent way back in time and probably where this all started.

Now registration is working but only from "Add New User" for Administrator. Verification link is sent to new user.

Have tried various permission setting (module inherit or set to unauthorized) but nothing works and Users can't register. Any thoughts please.

Check thru your system pages - and make sure there is no page that you have manually created called - Registration or Login.

Though what im wondering now - is whether the pages in the recycle bin - may have caused some issues with the new modules being installed and registered.

As a thought - can you possibly setup a separate test hosting with a fresh install of dnn - if so it might be worth using that to make a copy of the Register module and do a manual re-install of that module on your old system

Not sure where to look for the system pages. We know that there is a Logon.aspx as that's where it goes when click Logon. I can't find any Registration.aspx page however I do know that again way back I did create a page Register.aspx and that is the one we're using now.

In Site Settings > Advanced I set Registration page to None Specified and this results.

When Site Settings Register page is set as None Specified
URL is
From Login panel
/register.aspx?returnurl=%2fregister.aspx (what is fregister.aspx - off topic I know)
From Register link
/register.aspx?returnurl= string ........................ Home.aspx

If I set settings to Register.aspx this.

When Site Settings Register page is set as Register.aspx
URL is
From Login panel
/Register/tabid/311/Default.aspx?returnurl= string
From Register link
/Register/tabid/311/Default.aspx?returnurl= string
