As you don't even see the front page - I doubt that it's the PortalAlias entry. You will need that but not yet. Just refreshing the page is not enough when you change that table outside DNN. It reads it upfront and caches the results. You have to stop/start the AppPool at a minimum to pick up the new result.

Sounds to me like something in the site setup. You may have to get deep and meaningful with the support folks.

As a test try entering this...

http:///dnn.ico

...I'm assuming that every DNN install has DNN.ico sitting in the root folder. If you see the DNN icon then probably is something to do with the DNN install. If you don't get the icon then it's something to do with the environment.

Ah. Post editor dislikes 'greater than' and 'less than' symbols.

Try entering this http://{your temp URL here}/dnn.ico

I did as you suggested Richard, and the DNN icon was displayed.

I deleted the entry I made in the DB.

If I use the {tempurl}/default.aspx I get a whole heap of errors about portalalias uniquekey violation. Here is the error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'IX_PortalAlias'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.PortalAlias'. The duplicate key value is (default.aspx).
The statement has been terminated.

Well the good news is that clearly the request is making it to your DNN site and attempting to run DNN code.

You will DEFINITELY need the PortalAlias entry and you DEFINITELY need the site to restart before DNN will pick up the change. If you have no other way then you may have to just leave it alone and hope that it will recyle after the default timeout. I think that's 20 minutes but I'm not sure.

@Sebastian - he cannot do anything via the UI. He cannot get the site to start. That's the problem he is looking for help with.

Best wishes,
