if you want to use SQL authentication, your SQL server has to be setup for mix authentication and you might create an account [myUsername], grant dbowner permission for your database and user this in connection strings in web.config.

Can you provide one screenshot of the form (with values filled in) in creating NewLogin (SQL)

I have tried again, using the same settings as Chris Hammond in his example (for security reasons - as I'm declaring these settings publicy).

Here's a screenshot of our appPool
http://www.sypensions.org.uk/webcompo...

However, I can't send a screenshot of the database as its isolated behind a firewall but, it is just like your screenshot from earlier.
These are the new settings:

GENERAL:
Login Name iis apppool\dnndev.me
Authentication: SQL (with a password set)
Default Database:  Master

SERVER ROLES:
Public: checked
sysadmin: checked

USER MAPPING:
MAP                DATABASE                                        USER
checked         dnndev.me                                     iis appPool\dnndev.me

DATABASE ROLE MEMBERSHIP for:  dnndev.me
db_owner:  checked
Public:   checked

btw,
I've not amended web.config file yet, I do not have to do this before setting up the database do I?
thanks.

I am using SQL Authentication - so I am using a password (even if I did try without a password the same error still appears)

We don't want to use Windows Authentication (besides its on a different server and can't be seen from the SQL server)
