I'd like to demo DNN for potential customers; my first thought was to install DNN on my laptop.  However I do have reservations about doing so, can anyone point me in the right direction.

If the impact isn't what I think then would it be feasible for me to do skin development on my laptop too?

If you are installing DNN433, install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.  Other than that, I am running it on a lower spec machine.  As you are only doing a demo, the load will be minimum etc.

Best of luck!

Thats a pretty powerful laptop, it will run dnn just fine (to give you an idea, I have a laptop with a worse processor and half that amount of Ram, and I do all my dotnetnuke development on it). You will need to install IIS (though it's possibly already on your machine as you're running XP Pro), and then install sql. If you do not want to purchase sql 2000/2005, then you can download either the free MSDE or SQL Express (I would recommend sql server express advanced with all the tools - http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ ) to use as the backend.

As for skin development, it'll be fine.

Cathal,

I wanted to thank you for your contributions and constant involvement in the DNN community.  I've been around the community a couple of years and your site was one of the first I visited.  I've introduced several companies to DNN and have seen them adopt it as a development platform.

Thanks again,

Chad

I've read Shawn's blog about the Starter Kits; I'm not a developer, but do a lot of skin development and implementations on DNN.  I'm encouraged with Shawn and Michael Washington's posts and want to venture into more development.

Being that I'm new to development I was thinking of going the route of Shawns post and a lightweight install of Visual Web Developer, SQL Express and Cassini.  I have a MSDN subscription so my question is for comments or opinions of what would best fit my needs, I don't plan on really doing module development, but would like to learn.
