Yes, it is possible that not having SMTP configured would be causing the error you are seeing.

John,

 

Thanks for all your help.  It turned out to be an ID 10 T error on my part.

I had neglected to capitalize <user> and </user> in my data.  Once that was done it worked perfectly!  I also added <DisplayName></DisplayName> to my data and

“oUserInfo.DisplayName = GetXmlItemValue(xmlItem, "DisplayName")” to the code behind to get the display name to populate.

 

You have saved me hours of manual input.

Hey John...having problems creating the xml file.  Can you give some newbie instructions on how I might create this from the members table?  My applicable column names would be username, emailaddress, realname, password.

OK...I got the xml file created now.  Did the import, all users were created successfully.  But now there are two problems.  First is I can't log into the site with one of the imported user accounts.  Second is the Users Administration errors out when you try to administer a user account.

Any thoughts?
