Create a dotnetnuke site in a location with a short name, for example, c:\dotnetnukedev

Michael:

Thank you for the suggestion but my setup has a pretty short path as it is in C:\Inetpub\DNN434Kit\. The very long path I mentioned before is created and maintained internally by VS2005 when it does its magic. IMHO I think that I have run into a real limitation/bug in VS2005. Also, the fact that some of the DNN modules have very long assembly names doesn't help.

Maybe one of the Core Team members that has connections with the ASP.Net folks at the mothership (MS) needs to pass this finding to them.

Am I really the first one to see this problem??????

If you posted the exact steps to re create the problem to http://forums.asp.net  it would probably help.

Michael:

Well, I thought, I had done a good job describing the problem in my first post and subsequent messages. I was actually looking at your procedure here http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_PackageModule/Default.htm. Like I said before, I have almost completed the module, which is fairly complex, and everything works fine, except, when I get to the part titled “Create the compiled assemblies”, when I do the very first step, that reads “From the Build menu, select Publish Web Site”, VS2005 cranks for a while and then displays the error below. That’s it, I don’t know what else to add, because everything else (and I mean Everything Else) works as expected.

I guess there is one more thing I can add, I created a new Web application from scratch to test the "Publish Web Site" function and it worked fine. There is something about the DNN project that is making VS blow up.

Thank you for your interest.

Carlos

You're right you did describe it well. Looking at it again I see "Building directory '/DNN434Kit/App_Code/'./"

This makes me wonder if it is an oddly named directory in your APP_Code folder. Can yo examine all the folders and all the names of the files in the folders for anything odd?
