Hi All.

I'm running DNN 4 on a win2003Sp1 with NF2 of course.
The Portal is running at home on this local stand-alone server, accessable from outside via Dynamic DNS.
My mailboxes are hostet by a local provider (1und1.de), so i'm not dealing with any mails at my own server and i do not have a mail-server at home (why should i?)
And i must say i'm neither a networking guru nor a programmer....

Everything is running pretty well with my DNN Portal but sending out any mails (registration, notifications....).

I put in the data in System-Settings for the SMTP-Server which is working in Outlook as well but everytime i click TEST i get the error "Failure sending mail". The SMTP-Service is running on my Server.

Now the question: what to configure (either in DNN or on my Server) to get the mails out?

I've read almost the whole Forum here but can't get it running.

Thanks for any hints in advance.

Yes it's frustrating isn't it.. can you check your log viewer and post the error that's coming up.. it will help.. I can't say I've got an answer, but if we see more of the problem - from the log viewer, it helps give us a head start in helping you.

Make sure you have a valid email address set for host and portal admins.

I believe this may be a problem with the 1and1 mail servers. We have some dedicated servers with 1and1 hosting some DNN installs that will NOT send out emails vial the 1and1 mail servers (not .de but US). The problem just came up but we have not had a chance to investigate to deaply. We'll explore it more in the next few weeks, we only use the 1and1 mail servers for a few accounts so we have worked around it to date.

Please post back it you solve the problem!

Hi All.

Thanks for your replies so far, i'm one step further to the solution.

I made a testpage on my webserver (as mentioned accessable over Dyn-DNS) which is only firing on ASP to send a mail out over my installed SMTP-Service. After almost configuring to death THIS one was working (it was 2am in the morning) and the mails are arriving where they should.

Therefore i thought that i just insert localhost with anonymous login as SMTP-Server in DNN.

Well: test is still bringing up "failure sending mail"

So close .... but still lost. Anyone has an additional idea?
