You will have to delete or move the FckHtmlEditorProviderOLD.dll from the bin folder. .Net will still try to load the dll and the name of the file does not match the assembly name.

It is ok to rename the old provider folder as it will not cause a conflict.

I am now back up after DELETING the renamed folders (OLD) and the renamed .DLL.

Apparently there are some things you can't just rename old for quick backup.

Now I can start again.  When you have an existing FCK install should I copy the new files OVER the existing directory?

Should I Delete the Provider directory and the .DLL and start over?

I upgrade the FCKEditor provider by following these steps:

  • delete previous FCKEditor.dll and DSFCKEditorProvider.dll (don't nail me on that names) from /bin
  • remove /providers/htmleditorproviders/DSFCKEditorProvider
  • unzip new DNN FCKEditorProvider into the root of your DNN WebSite
  • open /readme.txt and copy the web.config content
  • open /web.config and paste the fckeditor settings, as indicated in the readme.txt
  • done

Thanks leupold.

I finally got there as well.  The instructions say to leave the "Providers folder if you want to go back".  However you must delete, not rename, the .dll.  That was the problem.  Everything went smoothly after that.
