we haven't been able to reproduce the existing error in DNn 4.8.4, though a few forum users still reported it to be existing. I am suggesting not to use scheduled sync, but use auto sync and - after changes to folder structure (create/rename/delete of folders) erform a manual recursive sync in admin :: file manager.

After suffering these issue for a long time all I can add is to confirm that I haven't had a single problem since disabling the scheduled task and also avoiding making portal settings updates to other portals via Host, Portals. I think the latter issue, which caused the logo setting to be lost, might actually have been fixed since, but I'm not sure.

The main file system problem remaining is the one where files keep getting locked by the asp file monitor DNN-7359.

Just a thought.. if manual sync works fine but the same thing done by a sheduled task causes trouble, then is there not a clue hiding within any distinctions between the two methods?

I am experiencing precisely the same conditions precisely stated in this thread (I found it by googling my error message - System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FolderController.GetMappedDirectory(String VirtualDirectory). My DB grew from 82M to 422M overnight. I am running 4.9.1. I have turned off auto sync, as stated and the error hasn't returned in the 30 mins since turning it off. Not the ideal situation to offer my clients but neither was having my clients report general exception errors to me and getting my event log filled with them. Thanks for looking further into this situation and hopefully finding a long-term solution. And, thanks for all your work.

NO, the errors are still happening after turning off auto sync. My event log is filling with these general exception errors.
