I have reinstalled DotNetNuke using the MS Web Platform Installer. It was installed to my PC and then I published it to my website. I changed the paths to the database in the web.config file using the path shown in the Manage Database page. I also setup the install folder as a Web Application. When I ran the install via http://webiage.com/DotNetNuke%AE%20Community%20Edition, it displayed a message of "DotNetNuke Error" in the Default.aspx page within the install path above.
This error message gives me no idea of what is causing the error. I have no idea of how to proceed from here.

What version of .net is IIS set to run on your web server? It's not too clear from your description, but did you move the database too? are you using SQL Server or MSDE? When/if you moved the database did you re-add the permissions? Did you give the worker process user access to the file system where your DNN installation resides? Those are some of the more common hang-ups that occur when DNN is "Published" to a web server. If you post the exact error message, I might be able to narrow down the possible problem.

Thanks,

Nathan Rover

Thanks so much for replying to my thread. I have provided my answers below next to your questions:

What version of .net is IIS set to run on your web server? The site is hosted at DiscountAsp.net running on a Windows 2003 server using IIS 6 and ASP.Net version 2.0/3.0/3.5 sp1.

It's not too clear from your description, but did you move the database too? are you using SQL Server or MSDE? My SQL Server 2005  database already existed on the site with no other tables setup at the time of the DNN installation.

When/if you moved the database did you re-add the permissions? I did not move the databse, it existed already on the web server via my initial database install request to DiscountAsp.net. I did, as suggested by DiscountAsp in their knowledge base instructions for setting up DNN,  use the Web Application Tool option to specify the folder containing the DNN install files as a web application. I also revised the connection strings in the web.config file to specify the path to the SQL Server database. I then checked that DNN install directory and its folders had read/write permissions. Here are their instructions for installing DNN: http://support.discountasp.net/KB/a47...

Did you give the worker process user access to the file system where your DNN installation resides? I am not sure what you mean by "the worker process user access" that you mention here.

Those are some of the more common hang-ups that occur when DNN is "Published" to a web server. If you post the exact error message, I might be able to narrow down the possible problem.
Here's the exact error message. it was displayed in the format of the DNN Installation screen -

DotNetNuke Error

Windows Server 2003

As you can see, this is not useful at all.
Thanks in advance for any further assistance you can provide.

If the site fails, normally you can see the cause from event log.
