I've encountered these exact same issue with the error: 'unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.UI.Design.HtmlIntrinsicControlDesigner' to type 'System.Web.UI.Design.ControlDesigner'. I got the error when I installed DNN 4.4.0 Starter Kit on a Windows 2003 server with Visual Web Developer Express Edition and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

I also had a very frustrating problem trying to install the DNN 4.4.0 Starter Kit on my Windows XP SP2 Notebook with VS2005 Team Edition. The problem was it wouldn't install, instead complaining that the Project Type was not supported. So it seems that this Starter Kit works only on Visual Web Developer Express Edition. I also tried going back to DNN 4.3.7 Starter Kit to see if that would work. No go.

I successfully installed the Install package on my Notebook but got the same 'unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.UI.Design.HtmlIntrinsicControlDesigner' to type 'System.Web.UI.Design.ControlDesigner' error.

Does anybody know if I can edit the DotNetNule.vscontent file to change the ApplicationType values for each zip file to something other than "Visual Web Developer" so it is compatible with VS2005 Team Edition? Also so insight into the object cast error would be helpful.

Thanks...

I'm trying to install DNN 4.3.7 Source on Windows Server 2003 and I'm getting the following error

Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

Where can I find this event log? Also, any ideas on what is causing this error?

Thanks,

Adam

Is there an easy way to save this entire post, either by e-mail or print?  There are 22 pages of useful info that I do not want to read a page at a time.

Hi,

I just installed DNN DotNetNuke_4.0.3_Install.zip over DotNetNuke_3.2.2_Install.zip .

Everything went fine. I just have one problem now:

Despite the page I browse, with IE 6.0, it just go to page:

What should I do?

Best Regards,

Paulo.

I'm having the same problem.  I just installed the version supplied by my host (ISQ Solutions), which is 4.0.2.  Everything was fine right at first.  I did the installation, and when I navigated to the folder in the browser, I got the default portal page.  I logged in under admin/admin, and was starting to check things out.  Then  I started getting server errors that I don't remember exactly at the moment.. something about permissions, I think.  After that, no matter what I do, I get sent to the http://www.mysite.com/dnn/Install/Install.aspx?mode=none page, where it says there is nothing more to install.  I have no idea why it started doing this and am entirely confused.  I hadn't done anything to the web.config file between the time when it was working and the time it started acting up, but does it have something to do with a setting in there, or is it something else?  I suppose I could just do a fresh install of a new version since I haven't actually started work on this project yet, but I want to know if anyone can shed some light on my dilemma so I'll know what to do if I encounter it again.

In the upgrade instructions it says "Since there are nodes in the release.config and development.config which are new / required for DNN to function correctly, you will need to manually merge the applicable sections."

What's the best method for performing this manual merge? Do I have to actually review each file and try to spot the changes or are they documented or is there a tool for doing this?
