So I tried the answers thing, it's okay, slow and no way to ask followup questions it seems and assure they get seen.

http://www.dnnsoftware.com/answers/ci...

There is the question I asked for reference.

I'm a bit more confused than every now unfortunately. I'm looking for some insight from someone with experience with any of the 3 forum modules.

  • DNN Core Forum
  • Active Forums (codeplex version)
  • Yet Another Forum

One of the posters providing an answer to my question post recommended YAF, stating that it had some advantages and yet some issues still; however without providing any specifics that information is useless.

Can anyone offer any insight into the pros/cons of these in a comparative manner. I see that Evoq social has "Discussions" listed as a selling point, what are they using for discussions in that?

I'm not looking for point systems, or recommendations or ratings, I do need a decently strong forum system though as I expect it to be used quite extensively. The ability to do posts with polls would be nice, but is not an absolute must have. What I do need:

  • Categories
  • Sub-categories
  • Sub-forums
  • Decent moderation (We're not gonna touch SMF or MyBB, I know, but something understandable would be nice)
  • Image posting (Auto thumb-nailing/resizing would be nice, as would lightboxes when clicking the thumbnail)
  • Code blocks (I doubt there are any with syntax highlighting, but if so great)
  • Avatars

Thanks in advance for any information.

Richard,

please use either the Community Exchange or the Forums, and do not double post your questions!  All users can post on both applications, and your answer would only one time answered.

Thanks

I don't mean this in a rude or disrespectful way, but they are two separate questions. By the look of the features in the Answers section, it appears to be a way to ask simple questions (What is ____, or How do I ____). My question here is more of a discussion of the pros, cons and comparisons of several modules. That type of discussion seemed more appropriate for a forum. I only linked to the question I asked for reference to what my original question was and what information I already had prior to this post, which I was hoping could be a more in depth discussion of the different forum modules strengths/weaknesses.

So no wory about that, and my sotty for the missunderstanding.

Basicly I have worked with DNN Forum and Active Forums.  Both at time are stable applications.  DNN Forum is a Little older and is at time not continued, between some contributers would be found.  So I still have to suggest to use the Active Forums or any other Forums module.    I would install them on a test System and check which one would more compare with my needs.

Regards

Matthias

It's okay, sometimes things get misconstrued/misread when dealing with the internet. I'll probably be trying out Active Forums and Yet Another Forum. YAF has a somewhat detailed features page and appears that it will/can be a good match. However, I will try them both and try to make a comparison to post back to here so that there is something more cut and dry for newcomers to look at.

Thanks again.
