relevant is not the domain account YOU are using, but the one being used by the IIS Application Pool

...and I will repeat what I said earlier. Your connection string specifies UID and Password so the identity of the AppPool is completely irrelevant.

Do your UID and password allow you to connect with (say) Sql Server Management Studio? Once connected can you do stuff with the database you intend to use for DNN?

Dear Sebastian and Richard,

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate your diligence. I am quite looking forward to evaluating this product.

As I mentioned, the domain administrator account in question has the following roles:

IIS Application Pool (named DnnDemo)

  • Advanced Settings\ProcessModel\Identity = DOMAIN\administrator (my actual domain name is different)

IIS Website (named DnnDemo)

  • Advanced Settings\(General)\PhysicalPathCredentials = DOAMIN\administrator
  • points to location on C:\dnndev.me\ where this account has full control rights over all folders and subfolders.

SQL SERVER (local) Database = DNN

  • This account is sysadmin on this server
  • This account can create tables, etc. in this DNN database
  • This login is UserMapped with dbo rights to DNN database.
  • TCP\IP access is enabled on this server in the number 2 position

Question: Is there a file which the application writes to as it begins its installation scripting? Perhaps I can learn more details about what, in specific it does not like about the login attempt?

Hi!

Somewhat of a break here. I looked into the SQL log and found the rejected login attempts. The error message is:

Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\administrator'. Reason: Attempting to use an NT account name with SQL Server Authentication. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

Question: Why does the simple web.config connection string I created (and shared earlier) result in a SQL Server authentication attempt? Should I introduce a keyword into  the connection string to cause it to authenticate via Windows?

Best Regards,

Joe Wholey

In your connection string try Server=. instead of Server=(local)
