I  upgraded to Vista Business a few weeks ago on my main computer.  Now I cannot get DNN 4.41 and other ASP.NET web apps to connect to my SQL 2005 Express server when running through IIS7.  If I use the DNN Starter Kit and install a new website using Visual Web Developer Express, I can hit Build and I get a functioning DNN site running through the Development Web Server (Casini).  If I set up IIS7 to this new website, I get an message on the dnn install page stating that DNN cannot connect to the SQL server.

I found this very useful article, http://blog.n-technologies.be/PermaLink,guid,2c40e5cd-8965-40ba-bba6-d9b7f3dad063.aspx but it did not solve the problem.  I did Windows update and did a 750 MG upgrade to my Visual Studio and SQL 2005 tools.  Still no joy.  No matter what I do, I cannot get DNN to run through IIS7 on my Vista platform.

Is anybody using Vista yet that may have some tips?

I am running DNN on two Vista machines one home premium version and one ultimate.  I was able to set mine up without a problem.

Can you tell us the exact error that you are getting from the application. Also, can you post the connection string you are using? (Removing the name of the server, and userid/password of course)

Hi, When I first try to access the IIS7 site, it goes to the Install page and I get this:

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.04.00
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

If i go to the root instead of the install, I get this:
The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

My connection string looks like this right now, but I have tried the DNN default as well.
add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;Database=dnn;uid=dnn;pwd=dnndnndnn;"/>

<

Thanks

Here is another error I get with the default DNN install web.config

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.04.00
ERROR: providerPath folder I:\Users\rose\Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\dnn441\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\ specified for SqlDataProvider does not exist on web server

Server Error in '/' Application.

Access to the path 'I:\Users\rose\Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\dnn441\Compression.config' is denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'I:\Users\rose\Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\dnn441\Compression.config' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

Have you tried to log into your SQL Server using the username and password you specified?  If you have and it worked, you want to make sure that BOTH connection strings are set to your SQL Server values.

In regards to the dataprovider missing.  You might want to double check to see that all files extracted successfully, also make sure you granted full rights to the Network Service account.
