I've spent the past 3 days trying to install DNN - with no success.  The DNN installation documentation for VISTA appears to be sparse and far from complete.   My impression is that support and documentation are beginning to be outdated, in contrast to other CMS systems such as drupal and joomla (that are current and actively supported).    I would be interested to hear from others on this point - am I simply wrong and simply need to spend (a lot) more time working with DNN?

Thanks,

Ian

if you got experience with DNN installation on vista - document it and publish it! we will soon get a new documentation area, where all available documentation shall be collected, but like other OSS projects, it requires the community (i.e. YOU) to participate and contribute. :-)

Hello Sebastien,

I would be happy to contribute.  But I can hardly do this if I can't get it to install and work :).

Cheers,

Ian

I've done quite a few DNN installs (both source and install versions) on Vista Business without problem except for the first one which was a real pain so would be happy to help also. Have you seen the following tutorials:

From Michael Washington: http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN4_DevelopmentEnvironment/DNNDevelopmentWindowsVista.htm

From DNN Creative: http://www.dnncreative.com/Tutorials/DNNTutorialsforBeginners/DotNetNukeVista/tabid/393/Default.aspx

The key point for me was the need to turn on the IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility. Although it was necessary several DNN versions ago to use the Classic AppPool rather than Default AppPool, this is no longer necessary. The Default AppPool should be used.
