Hi, I hope I don't sound too stupid, but I've run across an issue trying to update my DNN5 site, to the current .NET Framework.

On the host->host settings menu, I have the link to update to the current .net fraomwok.  When I click on it, I can an "Error: Object not set to an instance of an object" error.

2.0.50727.3082, (3.0), (3.5)     Update Site to current Framework

I get the following error in the eventlog:

My Configuration is W2003 Web Server, w/DNN5, the files themselves are accessed via UNC share (we're planning on implementing a web farm, it's not enabled yet).

Any insight on resolving the error would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jeff

This is a new one. Can you confirm which versions of .NET framework you have installed in Add/Remove Programs?

Did you install LINQ settings before? try removing LINQ settings in your web.config and trying again.

If you resolve it please keep us updated so if necessary we can log a bug.

Thanks...

This seems related, whilst it seems the same issue I'm not sure whether this issue would resolve your particular issue or not:

http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=9203&PROJID=2

Note I would recommend waiting for 5.0.1 for most issues.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.  For completeness, I'll fill in the answers.

I did a fresh DNN install this morning, I used the starterkit (VS2008) to intstall to the filesystem.  I then did a typical install.  I'm using SQL server 2008.

The server does have .net3.5 SP1 install.  I had never installed the linq settings before (unless VS2008 did it for me).

For my purposes, I'm in a good place after running, the LinqPrep utility.  It told my web.config file was missing keys.  I did have the 'pre' web.config file if you want to look at it, drop me a line ggiordan   at    trumsoft   dot   com   and I'll send you the file.

Thanks again!

Jeff
