Unzipped DotNetNuke_Community_05.01.00_Install.zip and uploaded to empty remote web server folder http://www.skillings.com/testsite/.

web.config SiteSqlServer settings:

<connectionStrings>
<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005-->
<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=sql.reachone.com;Database=skillings;uid=skillings;pwd=v!kbgo2;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
<appSettings>
<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=sql.reachone.com;Database=skillings;uid=skillings;pwd=v!kbgo2;" />

I tested the SQL database connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio and it connects with those parameters. I also verified with my ISP that the parameters are correct.

If I go here: http://www.skillings.com/testsite/install/install.aspx

Installing DotNetNuke

Upgrade Error: ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

If I go here: http://www.skillings.com/TestSite/Install/InstallWizard.aspx

DotNetNuke Error

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'dbo.Version'. Invalid object name 'dbo.Version'. at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.GetVersion() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.get_DatabaseVersion() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.TestDataBaseInstalled() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.Initialise() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

 Thanks for any tips on this in advance!

Issue resolved - I need to include a more detailed path for my Database parameter in the web.config SiteSqlServer:

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=sql.reachone.com;Database=NAMEOFSERVER\DirectoryName\thenTheNameOfMyDatabase;uid=login;pwd=pswd;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=sql.reachone.com;Database=NAMEOFSERVER\DirectoryName\NameOfMyDatabase;uid=login;pwd=pswd;" />

I was told by my remote web server admin to use NameOfMyDatabase for the Database parameter originally and that worked in a previous installation of 5.0...interesting.

Note: during the SQL setup portion of the current configuration process, NAMEOFSERVER\DirectoryName\NameOfMyDatabase did not connect to the database, but simply NameOfMyDatabase did.

Anyways, problem solved : )

Sebastian,

I am told by my remote web server admin that it is a "standard SQL Server 2000 database" and that he believes (but is not sure) that it is an "attached database" : )

for attached databases, only the database name is required. please validate db user permissions.
