New installation of DotNetNuke 5.2.2 on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition was successful (this is the first Windows 2008 IIS server in use here). The initial page displays with no problem. However, when I try to login to the website, I receive the dreaded "Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. HTTP 404 error  to Requested URL: /Login.aspx" message. Regardless of which link I try on the home page (home, register, and login), I receive the same error. I must have a setting in IIS incorrect, but don't have a clue.

I have verified that

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed and the Application Pool for the site is set to v2.0.50727  Integrated (by default)
  • Permissions on the directory include NETWORK Service (Full Control)
  • .NET Trust Level - Full

I am at a total loss as to what should be checked at this point. I read another post asking whether URL rewrite was installed??? Not sure what that is so couldn't check.

Thanks for your help!

First, is this Windows Server 2008 or R2 (IIS7 or IIS 7.5)? Who is the AppPool Identity (Network Service or AppPoolIdentity)? You can find the Identity by going to IIS Manager, Application Pools and right-click on the pool you want to configure, select Advanced Settings and Identity in the dialog that opens.

If it is AppPoolIdentity (prefered), then right click on your site in IIS Manager and select Permissions. Select Edit, then Add. Enter "IIS AppPool\<your app pool name>", and select Check Names. Allow this user to have modify permissions.

This is a Windows 2008 IIS 7 installation. The AppPool Identity is NetworkService.I verified the directory permissions include Network Service set to Modify.

If I change the AppPool Identity to AppPoolIdentity, right click the site, select permissions, Select Edit, Add, Enter "IIS AppPool\<your app pool name>", and select Check Names, the Name Not Found message is displayed. If I select Advanced, Find Now to display all Users, Groups, or Build-in security principals, there is no Application Pool ID listed.

Any other suggestions?

Sorry for the long delay. The reason I asked is the the AppPool identy is not available in IIS 7, only 7.5. That is without having to do some major command prompt lifting.

Are you certain that the website is configured as an application? Are you using any third party [friendly] URL manager? Can you navigate to all the other pages in the site?

Thanks.

I am positive the website is configured as an application.

I have reinstalled the OS, Role: Web Server (IIS). Installed DNN - website runs now. Don't have any idea why - no difference in the installations.

I have installed a module that is AJAX enabled. The drag and drop funcitonality is not working. Any ideas??? This has gone from frustrating to the point of giving up.
