Hi,

I am considering different CMSs, so downloaded 5.6.2 (source code package) and built it there were errors in edithtml.ascx.vb
due to "Select pa.HTTPAlias" being on the next line so had to edit it back to the line above.

Its not very impressive when it doesn't even run out of the box.

It seems that there are serious reliability issues with DNN.
Is that true or not?

DNN is reliable. I have had clients using the same DNN build for just on 5 years, which we have upgraded periodically as needed, from DNN 3 to the latest version of DNN 5.6.2.

If you are not developing anything specific, then just use the install build, rather than the source code build.

I have found DNN to be more reliable in the initial build than in the past.

However, if your permissions are not set up correctly, it will not work in a month of Sundays.

I have not had to touch any of the vb files when installing and I guess in the last month we've done about 45 new builds, our own custom build, which installed flawlessly with our own template and modules.

Hey, thanks for the info. I am a bit more confident about using DNN at least :) It just seems that there are a lot of posts regarding installation errors, but I suppose thats to be expected when it has been deployed in the numbers that it has.

Maybe I spoke too soon.

On running DNN for the first time I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in Globals.vb. DataProvider.Instance isn't initialised ...

DataProvider.Instance().GetProviderPath()

Are there any installation instructions for the sourcecode package? i couldn't see any on sourceforge.

I don't use that to install dnn. I use either the Microsoft platform installer or the install build.

Without a doubt, the microsoft Application installer has been the quickest way to get dnn going and it's lightweight http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en...

If you were to install that - you'd have dnn up and running fairly quickly.
