The answer should be yes but.....

Ok... let me explain myself here...
I have a unique situation where i need to setup a separate DNN web portal as a Virtual Website under the DEFAULT website.

I have IIS pointing to C:\inetpub\websites\UniqueDNN56\ this will be its own portal and will browse to http://localhost/UniqueDNN56/

But here is my concern... the current DEFAULT WEBSITE which points to another DNN Portal is on a separate folder C: Drive... and runs under http://localhost/dnnmaintest and its IIS points to C:\inetpub\wwwroot

QUESTION: Before i run the install process for the new separate http://localhost/UniqueDNN56/install , WILL THIS TOTALLY HOSE MY DNN TEST SITE RUNNING ON THE ROOT OF DEFAULT WEB SITE?

Each instance has its own IIS settings and both have totally separate folders...and separate Databases
I just needed to run a virtual DNN website as a totally separate portal as http://localhost/UniqueDNN56/ and it has no relationship shared with the DNN  Install that is running as the Default Web Site.

Just for clarity,
Main Test DNN Site  http://localhost/dnnmaintest IIS points to C:\inetpub\wwwroot
and my separate virtual dnn site is http://localhost/UniqueDNN56/ and it's IIS points to C:\inetpub\websites\UniqueDNN56\
Both have separate Databases...

Will this cause a problem in DotNetNuke?

you should be able to install DNN in a virtual directory, make sure to grant proper file permissions to the Windows account used by ASP.Net application pool identity. BTW: I prefer using custom domain names, entered into /system32/drivers/etc/hosts file as localhost aliases.

Thanks... i was thinking that there should not be an issue... but wasn't sure in this case... sometimes you never know with DNN

And in regards to the host file, I've had to do that as well... thats a good suggestion... just have to remember to flush your dns on your system so that the new host setting is picked up... or at least thats what i've had to do in the past...
