WOW,  For two days this one has been driving me crazy ( well a little crazier).  I have reinstalled DNN many many times, but i can NOT add a module.

I installed DNN 5.6.2 on Win 2008 server default site with SQL 2005

The install finished and I went to my site (http://pol.pearland.com/ptl/) and logged in.  NO PROBLEM

So I changed top (Home) page just a little.  I simply added "Joel was here".  NO PROBLEM.

I logged off and even closed IE and then went back to http://pol.pearland.com/ptl/ NO PROBLEM

Now I logged in and went to Hosts tab.

I selected Module definition

Then I went to bottom of page and selected Install Module

After a LONG wait ( 2 minutes 10 seconds)  it gave me a error which when I clicked on More Info it said:

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

·         Internet connectivity has been lost.

·         The website is temporarily unavailable.

·         The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.

·         The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.

·         If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

So I just went to Yahoo.com and it went quickly and I even came back to the DNN site ( http://pol.pearland.com/ptl/ ) and it was fine and even showed me as still logged in.  NO PROBLEM

So:
I am ON THE INTERNET
my DNS is apparently working
DNS for http://pol.pearland.com/ptl/ is working fine.

I even tried it from a different computer on my LAN. I could login fine, but it crashed when I tried to Install Module.   SAME RESULTS.

I just can NOT ADD A MODULE.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why???

It is a clean install of DNN and I will be glad to give you the Host password and let you try.

Thanks

Joel in Houston

How can this be true????????

If I go to Module Definition page on Host tab: which is http://pol.pearland.com/PTL/Host/Modu...

it loads FINE

Yet when I am on that page and select page to Select Module: which is  http://POL.pearland.com/PTL/Host/Modu...

It takes over two minutes to give me page not found as described in my first post on this thread. However I can select "Go Bak to previous page" on that error page it goes back JUST FINE.  So I am on internet and DNS works to find previous page and ANY page on inetenet.

If I go directly to the Slect Moduule page (copy URL from here and do NOT go through Module Definitions page) the after I login the page loads, but THEN it dies after I select a module and after long pause I get SAME error. YET again I select go back to same page it works FINE.

I am just at a loss as to what to do next. I am getting close to 3 days spent on this and I do NOT want to go back to Visual Studio LOL.

Could someone please try it from outside my network?

the Host password is houston (all lower case)

I would appreciate any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just tried installing two modules on your test site - the core Documents 4.01.02 module from the Host-->Extensions, Install Available Extensions and my own Content Dejour 5.00.02 using the Install Extension Wizard. Both installed quickly without error. Either you have already found and corrected the issues noted in your last post or there was a connectivity problem within your own local network.

I did note a couple of errors in the Event Viewer regarding known issues when compression is turned on (Host --> Host Settings, Performance Settings but when I checked just now found that the Compression Setting was set for "No Compression" - perhaps you had already corrected that problem since it was logged in the Event Viewer.

Also, I would suggest changing your admin and host passwords as soon as possible even if this is just a test site - it was helpful to be able to access the site but I don't recommend that anyone looking for help post their host password in a public forum.

Please, for your safety, change your host pwd sooner than later!

I think the problem you had was with a specific module and not particularly with the DNN install. I see that the "Content du Jour" module was successfully installed, and I successfully deployed it on home page. Additionally, I installed Mitch's Expandable Text/HTML module with no problems, and also deployed it on home page.

In Event viewer, you have this as the initial error when you attempted to install a module: InnerException: Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'IX_FolderPath'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Folders'. The statement has been terminated.

Not sure what would cause this but I don't think the problem is so systemic that you need to uninstall the DNN instance totally.

WOW, so you were able to add modules with NO PROBLEM.    I still can NOT do so.

I think that must mean it is a firewall setting getting confused when it uses the oustide IP for my websever which is inside and all port 80 traffic on a NAT forward.

I wonder if those pages are using a port other than 80 for some of their actions???
