Hi All,
I've read all the posts saying that you must change the Portal alias before opening the website when moving DNN installations.
These are the steps I followed:
1. Made backup of DNN on dev machine.
2. Zipped source code on dev machine.
3. Restored databases on staging server. Readded user logins, etc.
4. Unzipped files to a folder on staging server. Created website on IIS and did all the setups there.
5. Changed config settings to point to the restored database.

I open the website(http://localhost/) on staging which is also localhost on my machine. And I can log in.

My problem is:
Browsing to the different pages - the controls that where supposed to be there are not there..

This is what I've checked:
1. I checked the html page that gets generated from my machine. It shows the --Start_Module_2117 -- and --End_Module_2117 and the control is inbetween these tags.
2. I checked on the staging server and there is no control between these tags.
3. I checked the database and the modules are pointing to DesktopModules\control folder name\control name.
4. No exceptions are logged in either the eventlog or database

It's as if DNN cant find the controls.
What am I missing?
How do you specify which portal to use when logging into Host Admin?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Did you make sure your permissions were correct on the destination machine (refer to the guide)? Also, if you zipped it up and copied it to another machine, make sure you right-click, select properties, and then check the "unblock" option if it's there.

Not sure which event logs you're talking about, the DNN logs, or the event logs for Windows, but check both.

Thanks for the quick response Patrick.
I checked and there is no "unblock" option on the folder properties.
And yes, I checked logs in DNN database and windows event logs - but no errors.

I quickly installed Visual Studio on the staging server to see what is happening.
The Page Load method of the control is not being called. Which is weird..

Any other ideas.
