Can someone please point me to a reliable and current way to install DNN 6.1 on remote server. There seem to be some differences in the web.config file database string, since the last time I installed. I have hunted multiple times. Thanks!

hello, there are no real remote install guides as typically all you do is transfer (via FTP usually) the files (though some remote hosts will automatically install dotnetnuke for you via their control panel) - you will have to ensure that the permissions/database are all setup in advance via whatever control panel your host uses -you do not need to edit the connection strings for dotnetnuke, during install the wizard will allow you to specify the details and will test the connection string

Thanks. That's what I thought. There must be an error in the database security setting then.

Hello,
I have set up a website following the DotNetNuke installation webinar. The webinar doesn't have anything to say about deployment to the remote  web hosting provider.
You write: " transfer (via FTP usually) the files". Do you mean all the files in the folder under inetpub/wwwroot/dotnetnuke? What about the SQL Server 2008 database?

with thanks and a happy new year

yes, you transfer all the files and folders and will have to restore the database (unless you used a sql express database which is file based) Note: when you restore the database you will probably have to drop and recreate the user as it will still retain a reference to your local database master table (so it's possible to end up with "oprhaned" users)- typically it's a good idea to add a portal alias for your new domain name but recent versions of DotNetNuke will automatically add a portal alias on your behalf anyway.
