Hello,

I'm trying to install DNN 06.01.05 onto Windows 7 Ultimate, IIS 7.5 and SQL Server 2012.  I am following the video "DotNetNuke Explained:  Installation" video.

Nevertheless, after following all the steps precisely and then finally navigating to http://localhost/DotNetNuke I get this error:

Http Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error - The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Module IIS Web Core
Notification BeginRequest
Handler Not yet determined
Error Code 0x80070021
Config Error This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false".
Config File \\?\C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\web.config

Requested URL http://localhost:80/DotNetNuke
Physical Path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke
Logon Method Not yet determined
Logon User Not yet determined

According to the installation video, at this point in the process I don't have to change the web.config file; however, this "Config Error" paragraph is telling me that this configuration section is locked!?  Do I need to change it?  If so, do I change it manually or is there a UI switch to change it?   Other threads say this is an application pool problem.

Nevertheless, I don't know what to do and I am very confused.  Please help.

Thank you very much.

What version of DNN are you using (Source/Install/Upgrade)? If you're using source then you'll have to rename release.config to web.config.

Try making sure that the IIS  components are all enabled in "Turn windows features on or off" they are mostly disabled by default.

I had to enable the Application Development Features and Common HTTP features
