Hi All,

I had done the SMTP settings with the following steps and i set User Registration  as Verified

Navigate to Host > Host Settings.
At Advanced Settings, click the Maximize  button.
At SMTP Server Settings, click the Maximize  button.
In the SMTP Server field, enter the SMTP address of the server. E.g. smtp.google.com:465
At SMTP Authentication, select from the following options:
Anonymous  (This is the default option)
Basic (You should choose "Basic")
NTLM (Do not choose)
In the SMTP Username field, enter a SMTP Username. (admin@yourdomain.com)
In the SMTP Password field, enter a SMTP Password. (yourpassword)
Click Update.

The problem is it takes indefinite time while new user registration. Here user created but failed to send mail notifaction to user.

I also checked with "Test" link in smtp settings there it is not showing any success message.

I am working on dotnetnuke 5.01.01 version and XPsp3 OS.

what may be the problem?

If anyone knows what may be issue Please share with me.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sreeram

I've also had some difficulties with gmail and smtp, but mostly with 3rd party modules.

With DNN it worked perfectly for me without a port configuration, just smtp.gmail.com.  It seems to prefer port 587 though, at least it only works on that port for one 3rd party module I am using.  Also make sure you are using SSL with gmail.

I had the same problem (in DNN 5.6.2).
Thanks to the above post from DavidT I managed to get it working.

My settings:
SMTP Server and port: smtp.gmail.com:587
(Port number 465 does not work and results in a time out error message as described above by Sreeram. This suggests that DNN is using TLS in stead of SSL. See: Gmail Help.)
SMTP Authentication: Basic
SMTP Enable SSL: Checked

Thx.

This may be off topic, but could my Antivirus on the server be causing issues with email issues on DNN? I have NOD 32 installed. I hear that they (Antivirus applciations) can cause issues...

Thanks for any insight.
