I've been using DNN 4.X.X for three years.

I just installed v 5.2.2 and am setting up a user with her own pages to administer.  I setup a role for her and have that role checked off to allow editng a page.  She can add pages and edit existing content, but the Add New Module dropdown is empty, so she canot add any modules.  I set her up like I did in v4.x.x and this was not a problem.

Is this a bug or a new setting I have to change?

Thanks

DNN 5.2.x added a new capability for host users to specify for each portal what roles have permission to "Deploy" a module on a page. When logged in as host, navigate to Admin-->Extensions to be shown a list of all extensions available for the portal. Click on the edit pencil to the left of each module or other extension in the list to which you want to grant "Deploy" permissions. At the top you will see a new permissions grid with on column "Deploy" for which you may select which roles or individual users to grant or deny this permission. It is now the "Deploy" permission which controls what modules are shown in the Add Module drop-down in the control panel.

Bill - Thank you so much!  I was able to check off the modules my user could deploy.  This is nice feature addition.  By the way I live about 90 minutes south of of you in Mass off of Rt 95.  I used to ski at Mt. Pleasant quite a few years back.  Great area!

Bill,

Thanks for the good info. I have a closely related question. In addition to allowing specific roles the ability to add new modules to a page, how to I allow them to add specific modules from specific existing pages to the pages that they can edit? For example, if we give a user a custom home page that they can do what they want with, they may want to add to it some modules that appear on the site-wide home page, such as company announcements or events modules.  Essentially, any module that they can view elsewhere on the site, they should be able to add to their own page.

Thanks Bill for clearing that up. As an aditional note: I was able to confirm that you only need to be logged in as an administrator to set these module deploy permissions. This distinction was important to me because now I can delegate this process to the administrator without handing out my host login credentials.
