Hello All,

I am working on a dedicated server that has one IP assigned to it.  We plan to roll out 3 to 4 websites each using DNN.  It appears that the best option for us would be to create a separate install for each website as we would not want other sites to be affected if the database needed to be restored etc.  So, basically we'd have a database setup for each domain name, a DNN install for each domain, hosted under one IP address.

Questions:
1.  Do you find this to be an acceptable (and stable) setup?  Or, would it be better for us to have all websites aharing one database?  Note that we'll be using CataLooK for sme/all sites as well.
2.  I created a "super" install of DNN.  In IIS under Default Web Site, I set c:\DNN as an application named DNNFiles.  Thus, when you go to http:\\localhost\DNNFiles, the DNN site loads.  Should I use this install to host one of the domains?  If so, do I just change the IIS bindings for the domain to point to this directory?  In addition, I've created the portal alias in DNN.

Thanks,
Sid

1. This is perfectly accessible, I use it to host 20+ sites on one of my servers, all of those being DNN based websites with their own installs (though some are shared installs as well)

2. In IIS I would create a new website, point it to the c:\dnn folder, instead of pointing a virtualdirectory/application to the folder. Change the bindings on that new site for the domain name you want to use, also be sure to add the Portal Alias to DNN if you want this to work, otherwise it will simply redirect all requests to localhost/dnn instead of the domain name.

Hello,

take a look at http://www.dnnshop.com/

This company will make it very easy to achieve what you want, they take all the technical stuff and allow you to focus on Sales.  At they do it all on DNN and use Catalook as far as I know

Hi Chris,

Thanks for validating that I'm on track.  Each of the domains will be running CataLooK Pro with Booking.  Is it possible to use the same CataLooK database for all of the domains?  Also, within one of the domains we want the ability to offer users to have their own site as a top-level domain.  Instead of ourdomain.com/somesite (child portal), we want to offer users the ability to host their site as theirdomain.com as a top-level domain.  Can one DNN install handle multiple top-level domains? If so, how do we setup the database so that all the domains pull from the same CataLook database but cannot see other's shopping carts?

Thanks,
Sid

Hello Sid, it seems that I messed up my earlier blank post, sorry about that. I wanted to draw your attention to www.dnnshop.com They have a really slick service that saves you all the hassle. However if you are committed to building your own site, do not rule out NBStore. I recently spent a few days reviewing the ecommerce solutions and decided on NBStore. If you do not want to spend time on implementation, dnnshop is your answer. Mark
