Hi,

We currently have 3 or 4 little areas within our current site that have their own databases and are viewable only to the people logged in to that area.

Can we use forms authentication on dnn to use the different databases as well as the dnn one for the admin/edit roles.

Was thinking another option might be to use a service that takes in the area being logged into as well as the username and password and returns back a generic user logged in or not response. However not sure how that would work with somebody going from one area to another and having a logged in flag even though they are not authorised for that section.

Any ideas and opinions would be helpful as I don't have another dnn users to throw ideas around with here.

JHF

there are a few authentication providers which support this, please see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Authentication_Providers.aspx

At my work place, the users first login DNN.  From DNN, there is a page that allows users to "jump" to a legacy apps without the need to login again.  We implemented the solution using the technique discussed at this blog DotNetNuke : A Single Sign on Solution (C#)

If you have a master database of username and password and you want to use it for DNN login, check out AuthXP.

Thanks for the link Cathal,

I had already found that page but was wondering exactly which would be the best method to implement the login given my requirements.

I am going to try with AuthXP thanks for that suggestion Fuji.

Is that what you are using ?

Jacqui
