Every time a user's password is changed, the new password gets emailed to them in clear text. Is there anyway I can change this? I'm running DNN 4.08. (Yes, it's old. I know.)

Thanks in advance.

Keila,

in DNN 4 I don't see any way to solve this. You should upgrade to at least DNN 6.1.

There is a module by Mitch Sellers (see here: http://www.iowacomputergurus.com/prod...), that does a better job, and there will be changes about this in DNN 7.1.

Best wishes
Michael

Wait, I've been googling and I'm running into stuff about a web.config file. Can I change settings in there and where is that file located?
And there really isn't any way to just stop the DNN from sending the email at all?

Keila,

the web.config file is in the root directory of your DNN installation. It is in XML format can be edited using any text editor (I recommend Notepad++ if you don't have anything else). Anyway, I would not recommend to change this file if you're not exactly knowing what you're doing - it can make your websit unusable, so at least make a copy of the original file before starting.

To stop the email at all go to host settings and clear the SMTP settings, but this will frustrate your users as the will request their passwords and never get the email they expect. And when they are not able to login, they will never return...

Best wishes
Michael
