Hi,

I have developed an intranet site for my company, it runs on DNN Version 7.3.4 and company policy is for IE 8 and above only (with exceptions but not many), and most have been upgraded to IE11.

However when I run the User Agent report on the site log it is showing IE 7 as being the top by at least 4 or 5 times to the next most frequent User Agent which is Other. Firefox and Chrome are in there as well just not that frequent.

Is it reading IE 11 as IE 7 and/or Other ?

Jacqui

Have a look at the underlying sproc, AFAIR it just checks hardcoded parts in browser caps.

You may want to install Google Analytics to get a deeper understanding of your visitors.

Okay so, my colleague had implemented the Google analytics code for the site and was looking there, and yes, it was showing IE7 as being the most frequent browser used.

That got me looking on the analytics help forum and would you believe, if you use IE11 under compatibility mode, the headers it sends, are IE7 headers.

I have looked myself at the headers and yes there is a large difference and part of that is the version of IE.

So mystery over :)

Thanks all for your help and hope the answer is useful to somebody else who notices this.

Jacqui.

thanks for sharing your analyses, of course, if the browser is in compatibility mode, the report will display the appropriate version. You should check, why the browser is using compatibility mode - this might be an admin configuration for the browser (group policy), or a setting for your website, you might consider to remove, if your site works fine in default mode.
