Hi Folks,

I have a general question about DNN menu navigation and structure. Can it be made hierarchical based on what particular page you are on?

By this I mean the following. When you log in normally you see certain buttons and/or dropdowns on the menu and are able to view the corresponding pages based on all the roles you have attached to your particular user name. If you conceptually view some pages as “levels” and only want certain buttons and/or dropdowns and pages viewable at that “level” with of course one button available that can take you to another “level” page is that possible?

I thought that it might be possible to create users and roles and then attach the roles to various users in the normal manner. Then to get the effect mentioned above you could hide certain buttons on the menu on any particular “level” page. Does that make sense and is it possible? If so, how would you folks suggest I do that? Is there a better approach?

Thanks for any advice,

G. M.

G.M.,

This can be done, though it would typically be done by customizing the Skin for the various levels, allowing you to control which items show up.

I don't have any examples on how to do this though.

Thanks for the quick answer Chris. I’ll talk to the folks that sold me the skin I am using. Also there might be another commercial one that would make it easy I'll check that out also.

You might find a commercial one, but it would likely require just as much customization as the one you already have. You basically would setup a skin for each "section" of the site that would tell the menu for that section where to start.
