I have followed instructions to install starter kit 4.5.4 (changed extension to .vsi, double clicked, apparently went through installation via Visual Studio Content Installer), but when I went to VS5 and tried to create a new website, the Dotnetnuke template didn't show up.

Any ideas?

Ok, I'll begin to try answering my own question. Does the starter kit only work with VWD? I installed IIS and Asp.net 2 on a virgin system, then installed VWD, and then was able to follow Shaun's script to use the starter kit. I would prefer being able to use VS5. Is that not possible?

Now I've come full circle. After initially failing to get starter kit to work with VS5, I went to a different machine, installed VWD, ran the start kit, and got it to work. I still want to do development on my VS5 system, so I tried (unsuccessfully) to port the solution/project to my VS5 system. When I couldn't get that to work, I deleted everything and tried VS5 again, and now for some reason the Dotnetnuke web framework showed up as a template, I was able to use it and get going with VS5. No idea why I couldn't do that in the first place.

I'm disappointed that these posts have had no responses. Is this not the right place to ask questions like this? Is there a more responsive forum that would be better to use?

The issues are Visual Studio issues not DotNetNuke issues. Most tend to reply when they feel they have the answer or can at least help. As you see the Starter Kit does work with Visual Studio. Also see:Using the DotNetNuke Website Starter Kit

Your not the only one having the problem. I've followed the instructions 3 times and I still don't have the DotNetNuke Template icon visible in my New Web Site dialog in VS05. It would seem that this is a bigger issue than what it seemed.

I do have some 3rd party items installed for VS05, has anyone else that got the installation installed succesfully have third party software for VS05?
