I have a user with an email addres in the format of "john-doe@somewhere.net". He cannot register for my DNN site because DNN rejects his email address and gives an error "You must enter a valid email address".

Apparently DNN rejects email addresses with a hyphen in the name.

Can this be changed? Has anyone else had this problem? Fixes?

I'm not the one who will point you to the correct code fix for this but I think this is possible with dnn. I suspect you will need to look at the code behind file in the registration.ascx.vb file to either write a custom validator  for this or to see if asp.net includes one. My advice is a dangerous thing right now since I'm a newbie to programming, so please wait for the experts to chime in.

there is a regexp, that needs to be modified, AFAIR Erik blogged about it recently here on DNN.com.

This shall be solved in DNN 4.5.2.

As mentoned it is a regex change, it is actually very simple.

In the regEx that validates the email it has something like this [a-zA-Z*-_ and more characters.  You just need to put a \ before the -
