The skin installer in 5.0 takes a LOT more time to install skins ( I am assuming this is for 'legacy')

1- You have to click on many screens. One time for the skins and another for the containers.

2- For legacy skins which do not contain a manifest, I have to unzip all the skins which contains the skins.zip and containers. Unzip the two in their own folders.

Rename the zips (foe each skin and container) for each skin set to a proper names and install each seperately. In 4.x, I could do all this in one click. The installer would install everything in a single batch.

OK so why did 5.0 remove this facility!? I have tens of skins to install and doing all this manually is going to take me hours!

I am not sure what lack of manifest file means but if I was able to to do this easily in 4.x, then why not also in 5.0? Put a checkbox like 'install in 4.x mode' and replicate the same 4.x ease of installation.

It's frustrating when a feature gets worse in a newer version. 10 clicks in 5.0  vs a SINGLE click in 4.9!? Why couldn't all the information shown be presented in a single screen?

10 = 5 clicks for a legacy skin + 5 clicks for the container and this doesn't even include all the unzipping and file renaming I have to do before I start.. aarrgghh.

I have 80 skins to install which means I have to click 800 times! Whoever designed this newer feature seems to have one skin only and couldn't think to make this process automated and streamlined. I will develop my own batch installer before I go through this pain again.

I hope the skin developers start adding the manifest file for 5.0 in their offerings (and update their current ones)

I cannot intall old skins at all.  And when I apply a skin to a portal, it does not take the first time I click apply, I have to click apply twice.  I tried to install my skins by putting them in the install/skin folder and then running install/Install.aspx?mode=InstallResources but that does not work either.

I know you are not impressed with this, and I am not either, but have you tried using the install folder in DNN?  It is great when when you want to install a lot of stuff.  If it works like it did in 4x versions, upload your skins into the install/skin folder and you containers into the install/container folder and then go the the url of your site with /install/Install.aspx?mode=InstallResources (http://mydnnsite.ca/install/Install.aspx?mode=InstallResources).  You would have all 80 of your skins installed with no clicks and just a bit of typing.
