Hello,

I recently installed DNN 4.03 and run it in Web Developer with SQL Express.  It ran fine.  I decided I liked the product and was asked to install it up on our W3K machine running IIS with a SQL 2000 db.  I did this and all seemed well.  When I try to access the site I get the following error:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.00.03

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory) at

The error goes on for at least another two pages.  My path and permissions are o.k.  my logon and pwd is o.k.  Not sure where to go from here.  I even went so far as to knock out the SQL Express connection lines to make sure it wasn't hamging up on those.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I believe that DNN 4.x will only run on SQL Server 2005, not 2000.

DNN Will work fine with SQL 2000.  You will need to change the web.config file though to use connection string settings for SQL 2000.  They are different and the ones you are probably  using now are set of 2005 express.  The set you need for 2000 are probably commented out right now.

Cheers,

Paul Davis

I appreciate your comments.  I have commented out the SQL Express paths in the web.config file.  I even removed them so that it would only see the SQL Server configuration.  I still get this error.  I've seen where several people are having this same issue.  I'm hoping someone will see this post and be able to assist.

Thanks!

Same problem here, if you figure it out, can you let us know what made it work?
