My understanding is that Active Social was to be released as part of the Community Edition, with the exception that the mail connector would be available only as part of the Professional or Enterprise Editions. Tonight I received a promotional email from DotNetNuke Corporation offering Active Social for "free" if I purchase a multi-year license for the Professional or Enterprise Editions. This seems to be a promise broken and, if so, a serious one for those of us who have relied on representations that it would be part of the Community Edition.

I want to give DotNetNuke Corporation the benefit of the doubt and not jump to conclusions, so I am posting a request for clarification from DotNetNuke Corporation. Will you be honoring your promise, or are you going to make Active Social available only for paid editions -- and multi-year licenses of the paid editions, at that?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve-

I got the same email and I'll be interested in the official response.  In the mean time I'm going to guess that this email hasn't much to do with previously stated plans.  I'm thinking the sales guys are wanting AS to be included into the core even more than you and I are and since we are probably 8 to 12 months away from that happening they decided to turn AS into a sales tool now rather than waiting.

Just my guess.

I received the same email this morning, and I'm really concerned about it. I hope this is just a misunderstanding and ActiveSocial will become available in 6.2, Community Edition, as promised (I'm still not happy that I'm losing mail connector ... but it's a loss I can live with; ActiveSocial becoming part of Professional/Community is something I could not live with, at least not as DotNetNuke / ActiveSocial user).

Hello,

note: this isn't quite an "official response" (those folks are currently asleep - ill let them know about this thread) but I can assure you that we are currently working on the active social integration (as well as many other features) - it would appear that this was sales hoping to encourage folks with money left in their budget to use it up by year-end.

Thanks,

Cathal

Hi Cathal,

thanks for the quick update, even thought it's not "official" ;-) ... so it seems that probably that was just marketing not being attentive to the potential confusion they create with packaging ActiveSocial licenses ("pre-it's-integrated-into-the-core") into Professional / Enterprise.

Sunny regards,
Jashan
