In a previous thread from Renee it was stated;

"If you FTP files to the server the files do not display in the document module. You have to manually add them to the module even though they are FTPd to the folder the module is looking at. We have this module on 180 pages and every week 300+ docs will be uploaded. We cant possibly add each document individually. I thought this module should display everything in the folder it is pointing to? Yes I have syncd the files and have it set to do that automatically."

This is functionality that I need as well. We need a documents module that can be updated by modifying the underlying file system that implements the ISearchable interface.

I started with a low cost  module from Snowcovered called DocumentGallery (Snowcovered link) but I don't think it interfaces the Isearchable interface. The search engine we use will index the contents of the files. Having said this the search system does integrate as is with the documents module.

I am leaning towards modifying the Documents Module to have a check box in the settings called "Synchronize file system" that would when the module is loaded it checks the assigned folder (Default Folder in settings) against the database and determines if there has been change. I think I may also wish to add a drop down that would define the default owner of new document additions. It would use the file name as the title.

Having said this I want opinions from the development group and to hash this out before I start into the project.

Sincerely,

Rick

Richard,

This has been a road-map item that I have wanted to add to the Documents Module for a while now, but getting the "right" process in place has been the complicated part.  More than likely a scheduled job will be needed to handle the document sync process and other related processing, not all that impossible, but takes some time to be sure that it works properly under both modes of the DotNetNuke Scheduler system.

If you are at all interested I am looking for people to help on the official documents module team and I would enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with you to introduce this feature to the main documents module if you would be willing to help/donate time/energy to do it in the open source module.

If this is of interest to you feel free to e-mail me directly at msellers@Iowacomputergurus.com and we can discuss specifics.
