Hi Roger,

I'm sorry to hear the if all I want to do is add a simple custom field, that I will need to do a lot of work. I thought the purpose behind making a CMS and modules was to allow the user dynamic control over the site, but I guess thats not the case in some areas. I find it odd that 'Custom Fields' is even an option, since you need to change so many things in multiple files just to get a different display value.

Do you know if in the new version of Events that they plan to do something with Custom Fields, like give the user options to easily change the name or change the number of fields? It's almost teasing you that it's even listed at all since it's such a tedious field to customize.

Do you happen to know of any other free Event-like modules that are possibly a little more flexible?

Hi,

I'm sorry you find the module in flexible. A place you could look at is SnowCovered where I'm sure you will find other Calendar modules, which will of course come at a cost. Equally you could request the functionality via Gemini (as detailed in my signature) so this free module more closely meets your needs.

Unfortunately the DNN framework does not allow a simpler means for editing this type of things. The reason why it appears 'complex' is that it allows for the items to be done in multiple languages. You wouldn't normally need to edit these items in this way, but you are using a beta version of DNN (which 5.0.1 is recognised as), which still has some problems.

Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,

I guess the only part I'm not enjoying too much is the Custom Fields sections, as they're about as custom as any other field tha I can rename by changing the acsx and resx files. The rest of it seems to work pretyt well tho :)

I'll check out snowcovered and hopfully there is a solution I can find there.. but I really wasn't looking to spend any more money. If only there were more custom fields by default, I would'nt have this problem. That might be a good solution for the module in the future for people wanting to add more custom fields, since you can just check the ones you want, and leave the rest hidden if they're not used.

Thanks again for all your help Roger, much appreciated.

Am using DNN 5.1 and also trying to change the custom field labels.  Was able to find and change them in EditEvents and Settings resource files.  But they are not listed in the EventDetails file -- what am I missing?  Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with DNN 5.1, Events version 5.0.1.

I took Roger's advice to modify the resx files in the Events\App_LocalResources folder. Found two files (Settings and SharedResources) with applicable fields. I changed the values for both custom fields and saved the files. Still no change in the field labels. What else to do?
