In an attempt to upgrade from DNN 8.00.4 to 9.1.1 I encountered the following issue.  I am posting this more as an FYI than as a request.  I spent several hours researching this yesterday and wanted to let people know that I did find other people having the issue, but did not find where anyone had posted any solutions.  Please note that this is NOT an issue of the Persona Bar not displaying.  It does display, but almost all of the Host and Admin features are missing.  The only features that did display were the Assets options.  It did allow me to go into Edit Mode, but did not allow me to add modules or edit the Page properties.  I ended up having to roll back to 8.00.4.  If anyone does eventually figure out what this upgrade issue is, I believe there are others who could benefit.  Note that this occurs after the upgrade appears to completed successfully.

I am not sure what went wrong at your side but I have upgraded and tested 8.0.4 to 9.1.1 and I do not see the issues you have. Yes, there are some settings not (yet) available in the Persona Bar but most are and even if you do not have some setting you can always change them from SQL. It would be nice if you be more specific what you miss. A summary like a list with stuff that appears in 8.0.4 and not in 9.1.1

In addition to the above I had a similar experience upgrading to 9.0.1 and that was cause by a wrong setting for the Administrators role, it had IsSystem set to false or 0. Can you run select * from roles and make sure your Administrators role has IsSystem set to True or 1

Update the DB like so:

Update HostSettings SET HostSettings.ControlPanel = ‘DesktopModules/Admin/Dnn.PersonaBar/UserControls/PersonaBarContainer.ascx’ WHERE HostSettings.SettingName = ‘ControlPanel’;

Be sure to clear the cache after this change.  In English, you need to adjust the ControlPanel Setting in the HostSettings table to use the new PersonaBar which is located in DesktopModules/Admin/Dnn.PersonaBar/UserControls/PersonaBarContainer.ascx

If you want to revert for some reason, the original entry should say Admin/ControlPanel/ControlBar.ascx

Thanks so much for the feedback. Making changes to the Database is outside of my comfort level, but when I get brave enough to try upgrading again, this will be helpful.
