Hi,

due to SQL2000 is going to be EOS and also I want upgrade my DNN v 04.09.02 to the latest, I plan upgrade to SQL2008R2 first. But I have no experience with this, is there anything what I should be aware of ? Need reconfigure anything inside DNN or just run SQL2008R2 setup and follow instructions ?

Switching SQL server version should not produce any issues, as long as you upgrade SQL server before upgrading DNN, because DNN versions 5 and 6 don't support SQL Server 2000 any longer.

Sebastian probably knows better than I do, but the only thing I'd be worried about is any datatypes that are no longer supported.

I have run into issues in migrating, but not with DNN.
Datatypes like Text and NText.

Also, if you have any scheduled tasks because I know they changed the scheduled task table at some point. Most of these issues can be Googled to find a fix.

As always, keep extensive backups and perform in dev/qa first.

you may not be able to do an inplace upgrade of Microsoft SQL server, but there should be no problem to install it side by side, and restore a SQL 2000 backup with 2008R2. After restore you may raise compatibility level of the database to 110.

I already installed SQL2008R2 over SQL2000 (use inplace upgrade), everything seems to work. What will be improved if I raise compatibility level, speed ?
