Did you try setting up SMTP properly and testing it? Some hosting providers require a login which authorizes you to send mail (vs. unauthenticated sending from a different domain). What are your smtp settings for your internet access from home or work?  Sometimes you can use those settings which will bypass your host entirely.

If you and your host cannot figure it out then you will have to find one that will meet your needs.

I am using authentication, and I can use the mail server from anywhere I like - only the sender address specified has to be from my domain or the mails get dropped.

The authorization actually got me wondering: If the server requires authentication - there shouldn't really be a reason for the rule "sender mail address must correspond to local mail domain" to avoid spam abuse - right?

I'm trying to gather "ammo" to convince my host to change the rule - is there anything else I can do (besides changing host)?

I really appreciate the time you take to help me out here.

Just mention that you are using one of the top 10 open source projects in the world and other hosting companies simply don't have the problems you are having (I'm not saying there aren't other issues...)

If not, just take your business elsewhere. Chasing your tail in this forum will not help get your website working.
