I am still stumped by this issue. However, I finally got to directly check out an IE 8 browser that actually exhibits the skewing behavior on a machine with the Vista operating system. It also happens on an XP machine but I have not seen that first hand. If the browser window is at maximum the middle Flash movie module (there are three on the page in a vertical sequence which you can see here www.ssciweb.com) that is displayed in the latest version DNN media module is skewed to the right. However, if you reduce the size at a certain point the skewing disappears. It is almost like there is some sort of tabbing happening. I tried clicking the reset button on the Advanced tab of the Internet Options on the Tools menu. It did not change the behavior. I also haven’t found any difference in the HTML source of browsers that work and those that do not.

 

What is really odd about this is that the machine that I recently examined where the skewing happens has two possible users. One has administrator rights and the other user does not. The skewing takes place only on the browser when you are logged in as the non administrator. It looks like the browser gets executed from the same iexplore.exe in both cases. BTW I tried creating a non administrator on another machine. The web site displayed with no problems, really strange.

 

This issue is really perplexing. If any of this additional information provides anyone with helpful clues, I would appreciate any ideas at all that you might have that could lead to a solution. I keep thinking that this has to do with browser options, add-ons, or other features but maybe  I should think out side the box. I just haven't found an exit. :(

I got the Vista/IE 8 problem fixed by brute force. I reinstalled IE8 and both users (one with and without admin rights) now work! Someone on an MS IE 8 site suggested that the problem could be due to installation issues. Perhaps that is it. I'll let you know about the XP machine that has the same skewing issue.

BTW we noticed issues on a Flash module from a non DNN site which also got fixed with the reinstall. So far this issue looks like a pure IE8 problem albeit a very limited and strange one. Perhaps it will end up in the dustbin of IT history after the next IE8 version.
