I have a couple of questions about notifications.

1) I'd like to have it so that whenever a user makes a new post or replies to an existing thread, they are automatically subscribed to get notifications for that thread.   For example, I'm building a site for a group that currently runs thier forums on "vBulletin".   In the users options screen it has an item called "Use 'Email Notification' by Default?".   This is a great feature for promoting participation, because users often forget to check that little box at the bottom each time they make a post.

2) I've noticed in the user settings that you can turn tracking on for entire forum groups.   However, when I try and use this feature, it doesn't seem to stick.   In other words if I save it, navigate away from the settings page then navigate back, the options I selected are no longer checked.   Anyone else see this happening?

Thanks!

1 - I don't think this is a bad feature, though it hasn't been added to the next version. You can, however, have a forum type set to Notification, in which you can choose which roles you want subscribed to a particular forum.

2 - I wouldn't consider this a bug as much as a usability issue. The forum uses the core's DNNTree control which does not allow selection of a group to auto select every single forum in that group. Because of this I am faced w/ a dilema, get something in there which does this or write some rather cumbersome code which loops through and makes assumptions for the user. Because of the time vested in this next version so far, I decided to let this usability issue slip through and it will not be corrected in the next release.

The notifications forums will definitely be useful....   I'm definitely looking forward to that.

I'm wondering how hard it would be to (as a quick and dirty fix) to make a change to the code so that the "notifications" box is checked by default when someone replies to a thread.

For #2, I think my forums may be bugged.   On this site I see the entire list of forums and each one can be checked individually.   On my site, I only see the two forum groups and none of the forums within them, so I never have the opportunity to check individual forums.

Thanks for the help!

The task of adding the code is not bad, but its making sure you are doing it properly. I mean, there is a series of conditions which should first be checked (Does the user have email notifications enabled, is the user already subscribed to the thread, is the user already subscribed to the forum, etc.)
