I seem to be unable to access the 'General Settings' for any of the forums I've created. Is there something I'm missing? My user account is an administrator for the forums and has 'Edit' permissions for the module itself.

The page is in the tab, but is completely grayed out.

Any advise would be greatly apprecaited :)

Cheers,
Duncan

Duncan, you are on the General Settings view in your screenshot. I can see how there may be some confusion and will address the usability issue in a future release.

Well, Crispy, I seem to have the same problem from another angle, and it does not seem to be a matter of confusion.

Preparing my new site based on DNN 5.1.2, I happily upgraded it to the latest Forum 4.5.3. Obviously, there have been some major improvements which I like. Yet, some basic functionality seems to have been lost (or I am just not able to find how it is done at this Forum 4.5.3 level):

On one of my pages, I've got a Forum module with 4 forum groups, two of them public and two private with posting restrictions. I also have the Aggregate Forum.

It all worked fine with the previous Forum 4.4.3 release. I set the forum configuration rules based on roles, who can see what, who can start new threads, who can reply. And the Aggregate Forum correctly showed the public forum threads only.

After upgrading to the new Forum 4.5.3 level, my Aggregate forum is mixed up and shows threads of the private forums, which it should not.

I like the new Forum Control Panel and the way it works, yet I am absolutely not able to find the Forum Configuration where I can control the forum type (public/private) and user permissions. I tried everything I could possibly think of, without success. The Configuration seems to have been dropped out.

The icons next to my forum groups still display correctly as public or private, but the Aggregate forum seems to ignore that. And I can not find the way to check/control the settings.

If the problem is with me, please help. I am certain others will benefit from a bit of guidance too.

And, if this is a real bug, I expect you will fix it promptly with a new release. Yet, if that is to take more than one-two weeks, should I go back to the previous Forum 4.4.3 level? I would appreciate your best suggestion.

Thank you.

Alan, the change in the aggregated forum is by design in 4.5.3. Users see all threads from all forums that are available to the user. If the user is not signed in or it is an RSS feed for the aggregated forum, it will only show threads from public forums. So far, everything you said matches up with this (and if you think about it, it is more useable for those who use the site; "All Forums" truly means all forums available to the user now). Also, for the record, I have tested this in and out and just did so locally to verify things are fine in the release.

As for the "Forum Manager" in the control panel, all configuration options still exist today. If you look in the previous screenshot Duncan posted you should see a tab like link that says "Options", this is what you have to click to change forum behavior, set permissions and adjust other settings. So in this case, I think there is some confusion here too (like the original poster). As with the previous item, I have tested this locally just now to verify there are no issues here either and in both cases nobody else has reported a problem. I think this definately shows a usability issue but I don't think there are any bugs around anything posted in this thread thus far.

Thank you, Crispy. This is the best possible outcome - the problem was in my "confusion", the module works fine.

These are major changes indeed. Great improvements, actually. I like them.

I was really shocked to discover the Options tab in Edit Forum. Who knows how many times I went through that... As if somebody put it in there after your reply!

As a minor suggestion, you might consider giving the currently active tab (General Settings, Options, Email) some "life", so it is obvious which one is on at the moment. It might be the matter of the skin used (?). In the moment for me all three are just gray, as if inactive.

That design change regarding the Agreggate forum is very important, and it does require a bit of redesign on my side. I'll fix my forums right now. Then I'll go back to the Forum 4.5.3 announcement to read it more carefully, to see what else I've been missing.

I am still very new to the DNN environment, feeling my way around things, learning on the go. The Forum module is great, very important to me.

Many thanks once again.
