no, you need to make sure that nightly backups truncate the transaction log. I know, sometimes the truncate fails, you may follow the steps in my blog post from last night, to truncate the transaction log manually - from my experience this might have a dramatic effect for performance of your site.

there is an option in the sql control panel to "Trunc. Log" but I was afraid to touch it... well ok I'll do that.. nothing to loose anyway

hmm what can I say.. It tok me ages to loging and I truncated everything as suggested in your blog.... I did not do the last point (Update statistics used for query optimisation: Use DatabaseName exec sp_updatestats;) coz I wanted to change portal langugage so ... I went to language tab...and well request timed out again

hm, there might be another error as well. Does the server has sufficient resources (RAM) ? Sorry, it is always a bit difficult guessing, without direct access to the machine.
