John, you do think it could be a DNN specific problem...?

Interestingly enough if you wait a minute or so the folder eventually disappears. SO just have to be patient I guess. Not sure why it doesn't get deleted right away.

I ran into this at work.  I had a skin that I uploaded and botched the xml on so it didn't have a content pane.  I was lucky becuase I always try my skin on a single page before I apply it to anything.  When I realized the problem I just deleted the skin.  The folder became inaccessible till sometime the next day.  Because it is a live server we didn't restart, but it did eventually fix itself.  It isn't a good solution but if a restart doesn't help, be patient and it should correct itself.  It does seem to be a problem between Dot Net Nuke and Windows and maybe IIS communicating the delete command, and then executing it.

I wouldn't call it DNN specific, but it is the DNN application that has a "hold" on the folder.

The best way to avoid this is to change the skin your site is using before trying to delete the folder.

The problem I experienced is different I think.
Once in a while if I update a skin using FTP (the skin is already there, I don't delete anything, just upload the new files), the folder gets locked.
The skin works, but I cannot access the skin folder anymore (FTP).
It's strange and quite annoying.
The problem is that I cannot reproduce it, so it's difficult to find out what the problem is...
