I agree 100% with the original poster on this one, and I think DNN need to vet their marketing words.

This blog
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2191/DotNetNuke-5-0-1-Released.aspx

says....

5.0.1 represents the latest release for the 5.x codebase.  While we have made significant strides in dealing with the most significant issues discovered in the 5.0.0 release, it is still not at a level where we recommend this release for production use

The way I interpret this is.

5.0.1 is no good for production use.  This means that 5.0.2 might be released with the words "This is the version you've been waiting for!".

Which really means, v5.0.3 or higher will be where the real stability will be.

We do a bit of free web hosting for some sporting clubs at work. I shouldn't need to spend time testing packaged software, I just want to install it and have it work.

DNN shouldn't need to be a big part of my life, I have other more important things to do, like paid work for clients. I want to install DNN and have the portal admins run their own sites.

I don't want a stream of abusive emails about the portals not working. I don't want to waste late nights working of stuff like this.

It's 10:45pm and I'm still in the office, another night without seeing the kids. It's not even paid work.

DNN v5 is a complete disaster and a gross embarassment for whoever was involved. If it had been flagged as a beta release I would have stayed away from it.

Regards

Peter

So who exactly is going to test it for you? Nobody is paying me!

well, the point is - why put DNN v 5 up on the main download page when it is know to cause enormous amounts or grief?

At least mark it as "beta" or "pre-release" as a warning not to use it in a production environment.

Hopefully people will see this post and warning before downloading DNN V5.

DO NOT TOUCH DNN V5, IT IS UNSTABLE AND WILL CAUSE YOU GRIEF.

Are you saying everyone who downloads DNN needs to test it first?

Regards, Peter

Yes, it is your responsibility to maintain your own website. You should never install a module or upgrade of DNN without first testing it. At minimum you should back up everything beforehand so you can restore.
