I did our 5.0.1 upgrade yesterday on our dev enviroment and ran into a small issue with the host account getting is password reset to something entirely unknown, so I created a new account and made it a super user and changed the host password again, i came in today, and the password was reset again, I'm installing a clean 5.0.1 install now and going to do another test install of 5.0 to 5.0.1 on a different server, but this could be a major upgrade issue.

I do not completely understand the issue here.

I fixed the upgrade framework code in 5.0.1 (DNN-9292).  Is there still a problem with that code?

If so - please reopen that issue and add the steps to reproduce.

The code fixes the root cause of the issue, but it doesn't repair the damage already done if someone ran the upgrade framework in the 5.0.0 release. The problem manifests itself when the upgrade package is extracted which includes the System.Web.Extensions.dll. Because of the empty xmlns="" artifact still in the web.config after the 5.0.1 upgrade, the whole site bombs with a nasty error due to both versions of the web.extensions being loaded. This could have be fixed easily with an automatic web.config update during the 5.0.1 upgrade with the nifty new features added back in 4.6, right?

I would be happy to do this, but I can't, I'm not trusted with those permissions in gemini. If you'd like, I'll fix this and submit a patch.

To reproduce...

  • Install DNN 5.0.0
  • Login as Host
  • Goto Host > Host Settings
  • Click Upgrade Framework
  • Extract DNN 5.0.1 upgrade package
  • Navigate to Portal
